I

Kinja'd!!!

well I just signed a lease with my girlfriend on an apartment in buckhead, at the end of may I’ll be leaving my apprenticeship behind and driving my 85 300d filled with my 140 pound mastiff and every single thing I own 1200 miles from Colorado to Atlanta. She moved there from here 8 months ago to work at the CDC and now I’m going to join her. I’m gonna need friends and I’m gonna need to learn the ins and outs of the city so some help would be appreciated. The next month will be spent selling everything I don’t need and getting my car ready for a 1200 mile trip

Welcome to ATL. Your 300D may not be fast enough for our interstates. People tend to run about 75 on the highway here regardless of what the signs say.

What made you choose Buckhead? Was that where your girlfiend picked? It’s an ok area, just a bit expensive. If she is working at CDC I’d look at Tucker or Decatur. We live just a bit east of there.

Do you have a job lined up?

Buckhead to the CDC is an easy drive, traffic here is insane, try to live near work, make sure the AC works in the Benz, rush hour starts at 6am and stops at 7pm. There’s lots to do and I enjoy it here but the traffic stinks

I plan on picking up a more modern beater to get me around once I get there, I have some experience with Atlanta highways, we picked buckhead because she works at the chamblee campus not the main one near Emory  so it’s very close. They didn’t promise me anything yet but the owner made it sound very much like they have a spot for me at anthem automotive, if that doesn’t pan out than nalley Nissan would take me in a heartbeat because I have completed all t he Nissan manufacture training and have great references from my device manager and fellow techs. And yes buckhead is expensive, out rent is around 1450 but that’s less than I’m paying now in Colorado and she makes a very good salary

Ha ha ha ha the AC didn’t work from the factory on w123, I’m currently balls deep in the AC system it’s a bigger project than anything I’ve done before including replacing entire harnesses, rebuilding engines and CVTs and the like

Nothing sucks more than idling in Atlanta traffic in July and August with no AC I’ve done it and don’t recommend it.

Welcome! You’ll want to get to the suburbs. Here’s a couple cute places in up-and-coming areas. Good schools, too (usually means a better area).

Cool. Sounds good. If you ever have a desire to get into aviation maintenance let me know. We have a big push on and I know the folks running that.

Beyond that, there are all kinds of cool spots in the area to check out.

I’min east Atlanta (just south of downtown), though I don’t have much free time outside of work. I used to live in buckhead, but I wasn’t a big fan.

Caffeine and octane is basically cars and coffee and it’s the first Sunday of each month.

Someone else mentioned ac. The humidity here is unreal and whole weeks can go by with just overcast and rain.

That’s all I’ve got for now

Mine too, that’s the speed they are most comfortable at, I also have the high speed rear end but they just aren’t as nimble as you would want

People assume they are slow, they are a bit from a start but a turbo 300 tuned up should be fine and I have always assumed they are built for autobahn cruising speed. If you see the dots on the speedometer they denote optimal speeds I assume in relation to the RPMs ect.. and it’s around 75.
